LipSense, heard of it? I sure had and it didn’t seem to be going anywhere but more viral over the last several months. In case you aren’t familiar with it, LipSense is a super long wearing lipstick sold through independent consultants. The lipstick claims to last up to 18 hours and to be waterproof, kiss-proof and smudge-proof! Sound to good to be true? Yeah I thought so too, and if you have followed this blog for a while you will know I am all about the longwear lippies!
First – How to apply LipSense
1. Clean lips (exfoliation is suggested)
2. Shake the color tube well
3. Apply to upper and lower lips in one glide motion
4. Wait for color to dry (about 10-15) seconds, then apply and second and third coat with dry time in between ) keep lips parted until the final step
5. Once the third coat is dry, apply gloss and rub lips together
Tips
1. REALLY shake the shit out of the color before applicaiton
2. Make sure your lips are really clean, no foundation or powder residue
3. Reapply the gloss throughout the day
4. Do not leave your LipSense in the car
I was SOO excited to try LipSense that the day it came in the mail I applied it, willy nilly.. I did not clean my lips prior, just slapped on three coats, and a layer of gloss! The first thing that I noticed was there is a smell to the lipcolor, and it is quite strong – but once you apply the gloss the smell subsides and the gloss feels really wonderful on the lips. After the color and gloss were applied I really liked the color and found that it lasted all afternoon. The next morning and the weeks following, I actually followed the steps and applied it as directed to clean exfoliated lips. These days the color lasted approximately 7-8 hours, and I was sure to apply the gloss every few hours to brighten the color up and keep my lips hydrated.
PROS
- Long wearing
- Doesn’t budge once set with the gloss
- Gloss can be worn over the color (if thats your thing baby)
- Tons of colors to choose from
CONS
- Application can be a little tricky and a little more time consuming than traditional lipstick
- A gloss must be used with the lipstick to set the color, however you can blot the gloss for a more matte look
- The color and gloss combo are a little pricey, however comparable to any other professional lipstick you would buy from Sephora

Final thoughts.. I like LipSense, in fact I like it a lot! It is a bit of a learning curve getting used to the application and maintaining gloss throughout the day but it is worth the efforts. In my case, the realistic wear time is about 6-7 hours on average, which is pretty great overall. The cost for a starter kit is $55 and includes one color, gloss and the remover. I received the colors Aussie Rose and Caramel Latte.
Here I am with Caramel Latte 🙂
If you are interested in giving LipSense a try, I got mine from Jo Truncali who graciously sent me a starter kit complimentary and additional color.
